When the Times Are Hard (Ivy Room)
I’m a multi-instrumentalist and composer with a lifelong passion for music. My work explores the intersection of complexity, artistry, and accessibility—bringing diverse influences into conversation through sound. I hold bachelor's degrees in music performance and physics from the University of Nebraska, and have gigging experience on saxophone, piano, vocals, flute, and clarinet; as well as research experience in architectural acoustics, bioacoustics, and rocket acoustics. As a composer, my style draws from a wide range of genres. I’ve written works for classical piano, jazz combos, big band, and full orchestra, and I released a pop album titled Emotions.

Based in San Rafael, California, I work by day as an acoustical and vibration consultant and spend my evenings performing throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. I’m active in the local music scene—playing with several small jazz groups, sitting in with big bands, performing occasionally with symphony orchestras and singer-songwriters, and collaborating in various ensembles including a classical piano trio (piano, cello, violin) and a saxophone quartet. You’ll also find me regularly at jam sessions around the city.

I’ve performed with the Adrian West Band, Sebastian Parker Quartet, Dirty Works Jazz Band, Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra, Awesome Orchestra and Big Band, Electric Squeezebox Jazz Orchestra, Death and Taxes Swing Band, Dirty Cello, Magic School Busk Band, Einsteinium Saxophone Quartet, and more. I also lead my own quartet—featuring sax/piano/vocals, guitar, bass, and drums—which plays a mix of Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, jazz standards, and original material. We’ve performed at venues including the No Name Bar (Sausalito), Ivy Room (Albany), and Gestalt Craft Beer Bar (San Francisco).
